IPL Stats: Biggest Win Margin for Teams (by Runs)

Cricket is a team sport where one team gets to win and the other, unfortunately, has to go home with a loss. Sometimes, the loss can be demoralising for a team, and it completely dents their confidence.

This kind of loss for a team can happen in any format, and more so quickly in the T20 format, where the chances of making a comeback are limited.

As far as T20s are concerned, since the game is short, a 50-run defeat can be termed a huge loss, and there are instances of teams losing by even bigger margins. The IPL has witnessed plenty of these thrashing defeats by teams, and we will list the top 10 biggest win margins in IPL history.

Key Insights

There have been 11 times a team has won by a margin of 100 or more in an IPL game. The other instance is the Mumbai Indians’ win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens by 102 runs in the 2018 edition.

Seven times, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have featured in the list. While they have been on the receiving end of a defeat three times, RCB has dished out 100+ run margin wins four times. Interestingly, both Punjab and RCB have handed 100+ run defeats to each other once.

The other franchise, along with RCB, that has faced 100+ run defeats three times is the Delhi Capitals. This includes the recent hammering they received in 2024 at the hands of KKR at Vizag, in which they conceded 272 runs, the fourth-highest team total in IPL history.

105-run victory by Rajasthan against Delhi came in the semifinal game of the inaugural edition, the only time such a thing happened in an IPL knockout game.
