IPL Stats: Fastest and Slowest Centuries by Batters

The T20 format requires batters to be quick in their quest to score the big knocks. Thus, they are always in a hurry to score as many runs as possible off a few balls.

Some manage to put up a fine display of batting and bring up hundreds in the quickest manner possible. But a few consume too many balls, as the match situation dominates over them.

Nevertheless, the IPL has seen some of the fastest as well as the slowest centuries scored by batters. And here we’ll look at both stats below.

Key Insights

During his electrifying knock of 175* in 2013 against Pune Warriors, Chris Gayle broke numerous batting records, one of which was the fastest century in IPL history. He took 30 balls to sur the 100-run mark.

Before Gayle, the record was held by Yusuf Pathan, who scored a 37-ball hundred in the 2010 season for Rajasthan Royals. His quick-fire knock is still the fastest century by an Indian batsman and the quickest century by a non-opening batsman. Besides, it is also the fastest century while chasing a target, but underrated gems of the IPL.

The top rank holder, Gayle, ranks in the t-fifth position when it comes to scoring the fastest IPL fifty. It is Yashasvi Jaiswal who holds that tag with a 13-ball fifty against Kolkata in 2023. Here’s the complete list.

David Miller’s 101* off 38 deliveries is the quickest century scored in a successful chase.

Key Insights

The slowest century in IPL belongs to Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli. Both reached the triple-digit figures in 67 balls while playing for RCB. Interestingly, Pandey was the first Indian centurion in the tournament.

Though Virat Kohli has eight IPL centuries to his name, the most by a batter in the league, four of those have come in 60 or more balls.

Both the fastest and slowest IPL centuries came from RCB players.
