IPL Stats: Highest Individual Scores Against Each Team

Batters are scoring runs for fun in T20 cricket these days. And why not? Everything’s stacked in their favour.

So it’s not even a surprise when we see batters attack from the first ball. The fearless approach has resulted in quick scores, but a few persist a bit longer to build big knocks.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen it all since the first match in 2008. Brendon McCullum’s fireworks from the opening match?

That was the start of batters pushing their limits to bring up the highest scores against IPL teams.

And here we’ll see the highest individual scores conceded by each IPL team.

Key Insights

Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 175 is by far the highest ever individual score a team has conceded in the IPL. Pune Warriors (now defunct) were on the receiving end of Gayle’s ballistic knock in 2013.

Gayle’s knock included 17 sixes, which are the most by a batter against an IPL team in an innings.

When it comes to boundary fours, Paul Valthaty and AB de Villiers lead the chart. Valthaty dotted his unbeaten 120 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with 19 fours in 2011. Four seasons later, de Villiers equalled the record against Mumbai Indians (MI) in his unbeaten 133-run knock. ABD’s 133* is also the highest score against MI.

Gayle (Pune Warriors and Delhi Capitals) and ABD (MI and Gujarat Lions) are the only two batters with the highest individual scores against two different IPL teams. Both did so while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Among the batters who brought up a century against a team, Yusuf Pathan has the highest strike rate of 270.27 against MI. He smashed 100 off 37 balls, the second fastest hundred in the IPL, in 2010.

RCB were the first IPL team to concede a century. They were mere spectators as Brendon McCullum scored an unbeaten 158 in the IPL’s first-ever match.

In all, 15 teams have featured in the IPL at least for one season. And all of them have conceded at least one hundred.
