As the format becomes shorter, each run scored by batters becomes paramount to the team’s cause. 

The top-order batters have a huge responsibility on their shoulders to provide an electric start. When the middle or lower-order batters come into the picture, their role is to either stabilise the innings or rescue the team from tricky situations. 

Whatever the situation may be, we have seen batters wielding their willows to bring up mammoth scores by batting at different positions.

Key Insights

264: Rohit Sharma has the highest-ever individual score in ODIs to his name. The opening the innings.

200: Sachin Tendulkar became the first-ever batter to score 200+ runs in an ODI innings. The Indian batting stalwart brought up his double ton against South Africa in 2010 while batting as an opener.

201: In November 2023, Glenn Maxwell became the first non-opening batter to hammer a double century in ODIs. His whirlwind knock of an unbeaten 201 came against Afghanistan while batting at No. 6. Moreover, Maxwell’s 201 is now the highest score in a run chase.

194: Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry notched up only the second 190+ score in ODIs. However, his unbeaten 194 went in vain against Bangladesh, making it the highest score in a losing cause in the 50-over format.

183: MS Dhoni boasts the record for the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper in this format. Dhoni smashed a brilliant 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005 while coming to bat No. 3.
