Key Insights

1: Lala Amarnath became the first Indian batter to score a century on debut in Tests. He scored 118 runs in what was India’s first Test match on Indian soil. This made the feat even more special, though India lost the Test match against England by 9 wickets.

On the other hand, KL Rahul smacked a hundred on his ODI debut, making him the first Indian to do so and the overall 11th batter across the globe. He scored an unbeaten 100 against Zimbabwe while chasing a target of 169 runs.

3: Mohammad Azharuddin is the only cricketer to score 3 centuries in his first 3 Test matches. Apart from his century on debut (110), Azharuddin scored one century each in the next 2 Tests — 105 and 122 — and all 3 of them came against England.

187: Shikhar Dhawan holds the record for slamming the fastest hundred by a Test debutant in just 85 balls. And he didn’t stop there, he kept his peddle on the accelerator, accumulating 187 runs off 174 balls.
