Key Stats

3 four-wicket hauls taken by Andrew Tye, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Mohit Sharma are the most in an IPL season. Tye was the first to do so in 2018, while Chahal and Sharma did so in 2023. Chahal also tops the wickets-tally in IPL history.

Tye and Chahal picked up two four-fors in consecutive innings in their respective seasons. Shadab Jakati (2009), Munaf Patel (2012), Kagiso Rabada (2022), and Akash Madhwal (2023) are the other bowlers with two consecutive four-wicket hauls.

Yusuf Abdulla and James Faulkner are the only bowlers with 2 four-wicket hauls against the same opposition in a single season. Abdulla pocketed two four-fors against RCB for Kings XI Punjab in 2009. Faulkner did so against SRH for RR in 2013.

In Faulkner’s case, both were five-wicket hauls. This makes him the only bowler with 2 five-fors in an IPL season (2013). You can check those games here and here.

Sohail Tanvir was the first bowler to take multiple four-wicket hauls in a single IPL season. He picked up 2 four-fors in 2008 for Rajasthan Royals. This even included figures of 6 for 14, which remained the best for almost 11 years.

There are over 30 instances of bowlers taking multiple four-wicket hauls in an IPL season. Among them, Chahal, Rabada, and Sunil Narine share three each. Interestingly, Narine’s instances came in a row from 2012 to 2014.
