Key Insights – Analyzing the Most Explosive Innings in IPL Knockouts

Shubman Gill has recorded the highest individual score in an IPL playoff game. In the 2023 Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians (MI), he scored 129 runs in 60 balls.

In all, seven batters have scored centuries in the playoff phase. Murali Vijay was the first batter to reach the triple-digit figures in the 2012 playoffs.

Shane Watson’s unbeaten 117 is the highest score by a batter in an IPL final match. His heroics came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 title clash to help Chennai Super Kings chase down a 179-run target.

Wriddhiman Saha is the other batter to have a ton in the final. The wicketkeeper-batter accumulated 115 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 final.


The Fastest IPL Playoffs Centuries

Saha took 49 deliveries to reach his hundred, which is the least number of balls taken to score a century in IPL playoffs. Virender Sehwag and Shubman Gill are the other batters to take 49 balls for their respective centuries.

Sehwag and Saha’s centuries came for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2014 playoffs. This is the only instance of two batters from the same team with hundreds in the same season’s playoffs.

Suresh Raina’s Impact in Playoffs

Suresh Raina smashed 87 runs from 25 balls at a strike rate of 348 for CSK against KXIP in the 2014 Qualifier 2. This is the highest strike rate in an IPL playoff innings (minimum 50 runs).
