Key Insights
Virender Sehwag became the first batter to smash five consecutive fifties in IPL and T20 cricket. Jos Buttler and David Warner are the other batters to attain the feat in the league.
Sehwag and Buttler have scored half-centuries against an opponent in back-to-back matches. Sehwag did it twice against Pune Warriors and Rajasthan Royals in 2012, while Buttler did it once against Kings XI Punjab in 2018.
Among the players listed above, Warner has scored the most successive half-centuries at a single venue. The southpaw hammered three back-to-back fifties against Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata in Hyderabad while playing for SRH. (Check Warner’s season-by-season performance in the tournament here.)
Shikhar Dhawan’s two out of four consecutive fifty-plus scores were hundreds that came in a row. With that, Dhawan became the first batter to bring up centuries in two consecutive matches in the IPL.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings are the two teams with two batters each scoring four or more consecutive fifties while representing them. Warner (2019) and Kane Williamson (2018) did it for SRH, while Faf du Plessis (2021) and Devon Conway (2023) did so for CSK.
