Top 10: Most Runs against India across Formats

Ricky Ponting’s tally of 4795 is the highest any player has scored against Team India in all three formats combined. The Men in blue has produced various world-beating bowlers.

If you consider the numbers, one important name among them is Anil Kumble. He is among the top ten bowlers with the most international wickets across formats. With his smart bowling expertise, Kumble proved to be a dangerous customer for the opposition batters. He is now followed by Ravichandran Ashwin, who is very close to the top ten list.

And then there are Javagal Srinath, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, and the current sensations, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. This article is about men who have been consistently better against these bowlers and scored in bulk for their respective teams.

Joe Root is the only current player who is part of this list. The English captain is also among the top ten batsmen against India in of both overall centuries.

Steve Smith is the only other cricketer among the current cricketers to score 3000+ runs against the men in blue.

If you look at every name on the list, each one is a good player of sweep shot and, thereby, a better player of spin.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s 340 is the highest score by any batsman against India across formats.

Interestingly, the former Sri Lankan captain is also among three batsmen who have been dismissed for a duck by Indian bowlers – 9. The others are Jonny Bairstow and Tillakaratne Dilshan.
