Key Insights – Shubman Gill’s Test Batting Year-by-Year Performance Overview

Shubman Gill’s Test Debut & Early Career

Shubman Gill made his debut in the 2020 Boxing Day Test against Australia. He had scores of 45 and 35 not out in his debut match.

The right-hander started 2021 with his maiden Test half-century in Sydney. In the next match, he came close to his maiden ton, though fell on 91 in Brisbane.

After missing a few Tests in early 2022, Gill closed out the year with his maiden Test century. He scored 110 runs off 152 balls against Bangladesh in the Chattogram Test.

2023 was a dull year for the right-hander in the whites, even though he was in great touch in the white-ball games. Gill failed to go past 30 in nine of the 10 Test innings. The only time he went above that mark was against Australia, as he scored 128 in the Ahmedabad Test. This remains Gill’s highest Test score thus far.

Breakout Seasons & Significant Run-Scoring Years

But Gill turned the tables in 2024 and how! He had his best year in red-ball cricket, with 866 runs across 22 innings. His run-tally included three hundreds and as many half-centuries.

760 of those runs came in India, the most for Gill on home soil in a calendar year in Test cricket.
