All-rounders in T20 cricket are worth the gold. All-rounders help in having a perfect team combination. Multi-skilled cricketers give the luxury of a bigger batting depth or more bowling options.
Scoring a fifty or taking a three-wicket haul is a great achievement in T20 cricket. But what about having both achievements together in an IPL match? That’s an astonishing thing to do in an IPL match that only a few cricketers have accomplished.
This article will look at the great all-round performances in the IPL where a player scored 50-plus runs and took at least three wickets in the same IPL match.
1) Shane Watson vs DC – 52 Runs & 3/10 (2008)
Shane Watson was the first cricketer in the history of IPL to create this record of 50-plus runs and three wickets in an IPL match. He did this against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the first semi-final of IPL 2008.
While batting first, Watson scored 52 runs in 29 balls and took Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a total of 192. In the second innings, Watson grabbed three wickets, which included crucial wickets of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Shikhar Dhawan. This effort helped Rajasthan reach the final of IPL 2008.
2) Yusuf Pathan vs CSK – 56 Runs & 3/22 (2008)
Yusuf created this record in the IPL final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2008. He bowled a brilliant spell and took three wickets of Parthiv Patel, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan, and destructive Albie Morkel.
Yusuf didn’t stop here and played a crucial knock of 56 runs in a high-pressure match. He came to bat in a critical situation of 42/3 while chasing 164. Yusuf batted with great maturity and scored 56 runs off 39 balls. This all-round effort of Yusuf helped Rajasthan Royals win their first IPL title.
3) Yuvraj Singh vs RCB – 50 runs & 3/22 (2009)
Yuvraj Singh, at his peak, was a very destructive batsman and a brilliant left-arm spinner. Yuvraj showed his first glimpses as an all-rounder in the IPL against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2009.
Yuvraj, while bowling first, took three important wickets of Jacques Kallis, Robin Uthappa, and Mark Boucher, which helped Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) restrict RCB to 145.
After this, Yuvraj opened the innings for KXIP and played a fiery inning of 50 runs in 34 balls. Even though KXIP couldn’t win the match, Yuvraj got the Man of the Match award for his brilliant all-around performance.
4) Paul Valthaty vs Deccan Chargers – 75 runs & 4/29 (2011)
Paul Valthaty surprised everyone with his performance in the 2011 season and emerged as a match-winner for KXIP. Valthaty grabbed four crucial wickets of Dhawan, Kumar Sangakkara, Bharat Chipli, and Daniel Christian while bowling first against Deccan Chargers.
Then in the second innings, he set up the run chase for Punjab by scoring 75 runs off 47 balls, which helped KXIP win that match.
5) Yuvraj Singh vs DC – 66* runs & 4/29 (2011)
Yuvraj Singh once again finds a place here. He created this achievement while playing for Pune Warriors against Delhi Capitals in 2011. Yuvraj came in to bat at No. 4 and scored an unbeaten knock of 66 runs, which included five sixes.
Yuvraj returned with the ball in the second innings and took four crucial wickets, giving away just 29 runs in four overs. Once again, Yuvraj’s team couldn’t win the match, but he grabbed the Man of the Match award.
6) Chris Gayle vs KXIP – 107 runs & 3/21 (2011)
Chris Gayle took the entire IPL 2011 by storm with his six-hitting abilities. The West Indies legend Chris Gayle took the IPL to another level with his swagger.
Similar scenes were visible when he scored 107 runs off 49 balls against Kings XI Punjab. This furious innings included 10 fours and 9 sixes.
While defending the target, Chris Gayle continued his golden run and took three wickets of Valthaty, Dinesh Karthik, and Piyush Chawla. RCB won the match comfortably, with Gayle awarded the Player of the Match award.
7) Shane Watson vs MI – 89* runs & 3/19 (2011)
Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is one of the best all-rounders in the history of the IPL. He delivered a great all-round performance in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2011.
In the first innings with the ball, Watson took three wickets, giving away just 19 runs in four overs. This also included important wickets of Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu, which helped Rajasthan restrict MI to 133 runs.
While chasing the target, Watson opened the innings, scored 89 runs off 47 balls, and took Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable win.
8) Kieron Pollard vs RR – 64 runs & 4/44 (2012)
Kieron Pollard is famous for his destructiveness with the bat and street-smart bowling. He showed glimpses of this against RR in 2012. Kieron Pollard came to bat in a situation of 64/3 and played a brave knock of 64 runs in 33 balls, which helped MI post a target of 198.

9) Yuvraj Singh vs RR – 84 runs & 4/35 (2014)
This all-round performance from Yuvraj Singh is one of the most impactful performances in the history of the IPL. Against RR, he came to bat when RCB were struggling at 40/3. Yuvraj Singh played a clutch knock of 83 runs in 38 balls and helped RCB set a total of 190.
Not only with the bat, but Yuvraj was also a lone warrior with the ball. He grabbed four important wickets of Watson, Sanju Samson, Stuart Binny, and Karun Nair and gave away 35 runs in 4 overs. This freak performance of Yuvraj ended in heartbreak as RCB lost the match.
10) JP Duminy vs SRH – 54 runs & 4/17 (2015)
Duminy was an experienced middle-order batsman who could bowl some handy off-spin. While batting first against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2015, Duminy played a mature knock of 54 runs, which took Delhi to a respectable total of 167 runs.
Duminy also showed his experience with the ball and took four wickets of David Warner, Dhawan, Ravi Bopara, and Eoin Morgan. He gave away just 17 runs in four overs. This helped Delhi win the match by four runs against SRH.
11) Marcus Stoinis vs DC – 52 runs & 3/40 (2016)
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is a hard-hitting batsman who can give a few overs with the ball. Stoinis proved his utility as an all-rounder against Delhi in IPL 2016.
He opened the batting for Punjab and scored 52 runs, which helped Punjab set a target of 182. Stoinis also picked up three wickets of Quinton de Kock, Samson, and Sam Billings with the ball. This all-round performance of Stoinis helped Punjab win the match by 9 runs.
12) Hardik Pandya vs RCB – 50 runs & 3/28 (2018)
Hardik Pandya undoubtedly is one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the IPL. He can change the game with both bat and ball.
While bowling first against RCB in IPL 2018, Hardik grabbed three prestigious wickets of Virat Kohli, Mandeep Singh, and Washington Sundar. Later in the match, Hardik came to bat in a precarious situation of 47 for 4 while chasing a target of 168. Hardik played alone warrior knock, kept calm in a pressure situation, and scored 50 runs even though this tremendous effort couldn’t help MI win the game.
13) Ravindra Jadeja vs RCB – 62* runs & 3/13 (2021)
Sir Ravindra Jadeja has been an integral part of CSK with bat and ball over the years. However, since IPL 2020, Jadeja has taken his batting abilities to the next level.
In the match against RCB in 2021, Jadeja came to bat when CSK needed a strong finish. Jadeja didn’t disappoint and played a furious knock of 62 runs in 28 balls, which included a 38-run last over against Harshal Patel.
Jadeja also showed his value with the ball in the second innings, where he took three valuable wickets of AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, and Sundar. This all-around effort of Jadeja helped CSK win comfortably by 69 runs.
14) Mitchell Marsh vs SRH – 63 runs & 4/27 (2023)
While Mitchell Marsh hasn’t quite played to his full potential in the IPL, he delivered a brilliant all-round performance in 2023. He turned up for DC against SRH in a league stage game.
In the first innings, the Australian all-rounder broke down SRH’s middle-order with his four strikes. Later in the second essay, Marsh scored 63 runs off 39 deliveries to keep DC on course.
But after his dismissal on 125 runs pushed DC off the track, and they lost the game by nine runs. Nevertheless, Marsh won the Player of the Match award for his performance.
15) Rashid Khan vs MI – 79* runs & 4/30 (2023)
The 2023 season saw another sensational all-round performance. This time, it was Rashid Khan who showed a glimpse of his bowling as well as his hitting.
In a game against MI, the Afghan spinner picked up four wickets for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the first innings. MI put up 218 runs on the board, which put pressure on GT’s batters.
GT were on 100 for 6 when Rashid walked in. The game seemed to be almost over, but Rashid’s slogging kept GT’s hopes alive. While his unbeaten 79 off 32 balls couldn’t secure a win for GT, the Wankhede crowd enjoyed his striking, which included 3 fours and 10 sixes.
